There is no wonder about the economic advantages of sending voice and data over the same low-cost IP network. But concerns about VoIP quality, such as dropped calls and poor speech intelligibility, are preventing many enterprises from making the leap forward to VoIP. What are the recent advancements in IP telephony that dramatically improve VoIP voice quality? Is it possible to deliver to your users VoIP in the same or even better voice clarity than PSTN?
Join this educational webinar featuring wideband audio pioneer Jeff Rodman, CTO of Polycom, Inc. A must-attend for IT executives and service providers who seek to maximize return on IP Telephony investment. From this webinar you will gain answers to these commonly asked questions:
- Can VoIP beat PSTN’s toll quality?
- What is wideband audio?
- Is it open or proprietary?
- How soon is it coming to you?
- What should be your migration strategy?
Speaking:
Jeffrey Rodman, Co-Founder and CTO, Polycom, Voice Communications
Jeffrey Rodman has been at the forefront of audio and video communications for most of his career. Rodman co-founded Polycom in 1990 and has been instrumental in the realization of Polycom's iconic products for voice, video, network communications, and other media. Wireless Data Services - Solving the top Network and Service challenges for effective migration
Date & Time: Wednesday, November 14, 20075:00 PM Brussels CEST

Mobile Operators (MOs) across the globe are in a race against time. The race entails migrating their current service portfolios and networks to offer highly profitable next-generation wireless data services. This must be done, of course, while protecting their large installed base of voice-only customers who still generate a majority of the revenue. In addition, due to competitive pressures and increased demands from customers, MOs are being forced to streamline their operations; reducing CAPEX, reducing customer churn and increasing ARPU.
To achieve these goals requires many things, the most critical amongst them being: smooth transition to an IP-based architecture, careful optimization of Access and Core networks and analysis/monitoring of new service-related issues. As most experienced MOs are well aware, this transition is not an easy one.
This Webinar, featuring renowned telecom R&D pioneer Fred Rampey, begins with a succinct overview of the market drivers and technical issues facing MOs as they prepare for this migration. It then details the main challenges MOs will likely encounter from both a network and a service perspective when migrating towards wireless data services. Finally, the Webinar discusses issues and requirements when selecting monitoring systems, which are a key part of the migration infrastructure.
Speaking:
Fred Rampey - CTO, Sunrise Telecom Protocol Products Group
Fred is an acknowledged pioneer in the Telecom Test & Measurement industry. With almost thirty years in the arena, Fred’s roles have ranged from detailed design work to managing multi-national R&D labs and product lines for Hewlett-Packard's OpenView, oscilloscope and logic analyzer divisions. Executive and entrepreneurial experiences include early-stage telecom start-ups such as Astracon and Vertel, as well as current Trustee/Board seats on the Telemanagement Forum and for a recent HP international joint venture.
Significant career achievements include co-inventing HP's first digital oscilloscope; rapidly growing HP's logic analyzer sales; deploying OpenView across Alcatel's WW product lines; and leading Astracon's engineering services for Bell Atlantic (now Verizon's) first DSL East Coast roll-out of 1 million lines - the largest such deployment in the world at the time.
Fred received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1977 prior to joining HP's R&D Lab in Colorado Springs, and was a Co-op Engineer with Martin Marietta Communications & Electronics Division during the early days of mobile digital telephony and networking.
